If an app or website doesn't allow editing as you type, such as some online document editors, use Manual instead: select your text and press ⌥⌘V. Code editors start in Manual, so Charm never touches your code.

Yes. Charm sets itself up for each app, but you stay in control. In Settings > Customise you can set any app or website to Auto (corrects as you type) or Manual (waits for Fix Selection, ⌥⌘V).

You can also turn Spells, Polish, and Oracle on or off individually for each app.

Fix Selection is a shortcut (⌥⌘V by default, customisable in Settings) that fixes spelling, grammar, capitalisation, and punctuation on demand. It's how Charm works in code editors, and it works in any text field that supports copy and paste.

Select text and press the shortcut to fix just that selection. If nothing is selected, Charm automatically selects all text in the field and fixes everything. In Finder, ⌥⌘V still moves files as usual.

Some Mac apps have their own built-in macOS autocorrect. You have two options: disable that native autocorrect in System Settings and let Charm handle everything, or use Charm's per-app settings to choose exactly which features run where. You can also set those apps to Manual and use Fix Selection when you need it.

Right now Charm supports UK English and US English, switchable in Settings. Other languages are on our roadmap for future development.

macOS autocorrect only fixes spelling, and often makes things worse. Charm does three things: spelling correction, grammar fixing (capitalisation, punctuation, apostrophes), and word prediction. Plus you can undo any correction with ⌘Backspace or ⌘Z, and use Fix Selection to fix text on demand in any app.

Press ⌘Backspace or ⌘Z to undo it immediately. Your original word comes right back, and Charm offers to add it to your personal dictionary so it won't change that word again. Press Backspace straight after to remove the word entirely.

Charm needs two macOS permissions: Accessibility and Input Monitoring, both switched on in System Settings > Privacy & Security. They sit in two separate lists, so it's easy to have one on and the other off. After enabling both, quit and reopen Charm so macOS registers them. To confirm it's working, type teh followed by a space in Notes or TextEdit; it should become the.

macOS usually needs Charm to relaunch before it recognises a newly granted permission. Quit Charm fully (menu bar icon, then Quit) and reopen it. Also double-check both permissions are on: Accessibility and Input Monitoring are in two different lists under System Settings > Privacy & Security.

From version 1.0.72 it does, in every browser and in web apps. When you update, any browser or web app Charm had set to Manual moves to Auto for you. If you set an app to Manual yourself, it stays that way: open Settings > Customise and switch it to Auto. A few websites, such as online document editors, don't allow fixes as you type; press ⌥⌘V there and Charm fixes the whole field in one pass.

Yes. In Settings > General > AI Engine, press Manage to choose between the on-device models Charm includes: Fast (Gemma 2 2B) and Best Quality (Qwen3 4B). Both run entirely on your Mac. Custom or third-party models aren't supported yet.

Not once you tell Charm about it. In Settings > General > Other Languages, choose the languages you write in, and Charm leaves that text exactly as you wrote it, with no spelling fixes, grammar fixes or predictions. A word from one of those languages inside an English sentence is left alone too, while the English around it is still corrected. You can choose from Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Romanian, Turkish, Russian and Ukrainian.

Turn on Emoji Shortcuts in Settings > General. Then type a semicolon followed by a word, like ;smile, and choose from the list with the arrow keys, Tab or Return. Escape closes the list and keeps what you typed. You can pick a different starting key beside the switch: a colon, two semicolons or two colons. If you turn off emoji for an app or website in Customise, shortcuts stay off there too.

Charm finishes the word you're typing (press Tab to accept) and learns short phrases you write often, offering the whole phrase with a single Tab. When you pause after a space, it also suggests your next few words, using the on-device AI model. All of it happens on your Mac.
