How Echo compares

In a different league to
a now-playing widget.

Now-playing widgets and history lists each do a slice. Echo is the one that remembers everything you've played, across every source, and resumes it at the exact spot.

Kind words

Quietly indispensable.

What early listeners say once Echo has been running for a week.

4.8 Average From Early Users

I can jump straight from a YouTube video to Spotify without ever leaving what I'm working on. That alone has changed how I get through the day.

Questions

Good to know.

The questions people ask most, and a search box to find anything else.

What is Echo?

Echo is a menu-bar app for Mac that quietly remembers every song, podcast and video you play, across your apps and the browser. Press the shortcut and a fast, keyboard-first overlay lets you resume any of it at the exact spot you left off.

Does it work with both audio and video?

Yes. Echo remembers music, podcasts and video alike. Half-watched YouTube and other browser videos come back in a floating picture-in-picture player you can keep in the corner while you work.

Which apps and sites does it work with?

Native apps that publish to macOS Now Playing (Spotify, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and more), plus anything you play in your browser through the companion extension: YouTube, Spotify Web, SoundCloud, podcasts, and any tab with audio or video.

Do I need the browser extension?

Only if you want Echo to remember media you play in your browser. For native apps like Spotify and Apple Music, Echo works on its own. The free companion extension connects to Echo automatically; there is nothing to pair.

How customisable is it?

Plenty. Every keyboard shortcut is fully rebindable, and you can tune Echo's appearance and behaviour in Settings, so it looks and works the way you want.

How much is it?

Echo is $9.99, a one-time purchase. One licence covers up to three Macs, and every future update is included.

Is it a subscription?

No, never. Echo is a one-time purchase with no recurring fees and no trial nag. Buy it once and it is yours.

Will it slow down my Mac?

No. Echo is a light menu-bar app that sits quietly in the background, using very little memory and almost no CPU until you summon the overlay.

How do I resume what I was playing?

Press the global shortcut from anywhere, even over another app, and Echo's overlay appears with your recent media. Choose anything and it reopens at the exact second you left off.

Won't a day of music bury everything else?

No. Long listening runs from the same app collapse into one tidy, expandable group in your history, so an afternoon of albums never buries the podcast or video you actually want back.

Is my data private?

Completely. Echo has no account and no cloud. The extension only ever talks to the Echo app on your own Mac over a loopback connection (127.0.0.1) that never touches the internet. Nothing is sent to us, ever. See the privacy policy.

What does the browser extension actually access?

Only the title, artwork and playback position of tabs that are playing media, passed straight to the Echo app on your Mac. It never reads your browsing history or page content, and never sends anything online.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. You have a 14-day right to cancel, and your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 always apply. Email support@theodorehq.com and a real person will help. The full detail is in our terms.

Is there a free trial?

There is no time-limited trial. Instead there is one fair price and a 14-day money-back guarantee, so you can buy, try it properly, and get a refund if it is not for you.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Mac on macOS 13 (Ventura) or later, Apple Silicon or Intel. Updates arrive automatically and securely in the background.

Echo, in your browser.

A free companion that captures what you play on the web, from YouTube and Spotify to SoundCloud, and hands it straight to the app.

Free, and one Chrome listing covers Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Dia. The extension needs the Echo app for Mac to do anything.

Never lose your place again.

Echo is $9.99, once. Three Macs, every future update, and never a subscription.
