Two moods. Two desktops.

Sunrise. Sunset.
Sorted.

Light mode arrives with the morning. Dark mode follows the dusk. Solace calculates exact solar times for your location, every day, every season. Adjust the offsets to taste. Your rhythm, your rules.

  • Location-aware. Never leaves your Mac.
  • Separate sunrise and sunset offsets
  • Recalculates daily as seasons change

And then, the evening.

The light softens.

So does your screen.

At the time you choose, your display gently warms. Crisp daylight fades to soft candlelight. No sudden shifts. Just a slow, natural transition.

Less blue light.
Better evenings.

Evening Warmth runs on its own schedule, separate from dark mode. Choose your colour temperature. The transition happens gradually, from 6500K daylight to 2700K candlelight.

  • Adjustable colour temperature
  • Gradual transition. No jarring shifts.
  • Resets automatically at sunrise

Rainy Tuesday?
Your Mac already knows.

Dark mode activates when storm clouds roll in. Even at midday. When the sun breaks through, light mode returns. Your screen follows the sky.

who care about their screen.

★★★★★
"I used to manually toggle dark mode twice a day. Now I forget Solace is even running. It just does the right thing, every single time."
James Mitchell Software Developer, London
★★★★★
"The evening warmth feature alone is worth it. My eyes feel so much better after long editing sessions. And the solar scheduling is spot on."
Sophie Laurent Photographer, Paris
★★★★★
"I replaced three separate apps with Solace. Weather-aware switching during overcast Portland days is genuinely brilliant. One app, everything handled."
Daniel Kim UX Designer, Portland
★★★★☆
"Set it up in under a minute. Haven't opened it since. Would love an iOS companion app one day, but on Mac it's exactly what I wanted."
Amara Patel Product Manager, Toronto
★★★★★
"Finally, an app that gets multi-display right. Both my monitors switch wallpapers and appearance together. No other tool I tried could do that reliably."
Marcus Weber Data Engineer, Berlin
★★★★★
"I'm picky about my Mac setup. Solace nails the details. The gradual warmth transition is beautiful, and the keyboard shortcut for manual override is a nice touch."
Elena Novak Indie Developer, Melbourne

Frequently asked questions

How does Solace switch dark mode automatically?
Solace offers three automatic switching modes. Solar mode uses your location to switch at sunrise and sunset. Custom mode lets you set exact times for light and dark mode. Weather mode goes further, activating dark mode when conditions turn overcast or stormy. All three modes work without any ongoing input from you.
Does Solace work with multiple monitors?
Yes. Solace supports multi-display setups with independent wallpaper management for each monitor. You can assign different light and dark wallpapers to each display, and they all switch together when your appearance changes.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Solar and custom scheduling modes work entirely offline. Your location is processed on-device to calculate sunrise and sunset times. Weather-aware switching requires a brief connection to check current conditions via Apple WeatherKit, but no personal data leaves your Mac.
Is there a subscription?
No. Solace is a one-time purchase of $4.99. There are no subscriptions, no recurring fees, and no in-app purchases. You also get free updates forever.
What version of macOS do I need?
Solace requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. It runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs as a Universal binary. The app is approximately 3 MB.
How is Solace different from f.lux or Night Shift?
f.lux and Night Shift only adjust colour temperature. Solace is an all-in-one tool that combines dark mode scheduling, colour temperature control, wallpaper management, and weather-aware switching in a single menu bar app. It replaces multiple separate tools with one that handles everything.
